Step by step tutorial
In this tutorial we'll show you how to create trendy leather patches using your laser cutting machine.
Any Speedy laser engraving machine can be used to create the patches.
Use the 2" lens to achieve an even finish when engraving larger surfaces.
The first stage is to create your own design or use our ready made template. We used the relief mode when laser engraving to obtain two different colours on the material in a single engraving. This saves time when processing large quantities of materials. Send the file to your laser with the recommended laser parameters, which will vary depending on your laser machine and its available laser power.
Process mode | Resolution | Cut line |
---|---|---|
Relief | 500 dpi | none |
Halftone | Others |
---|---|
Colour | Optimised geometries, inner geometries first |
Use the grayscale matrix to determine the correct values for the relief mode.
Put the leather onto the laser machine's bed and secure it using the tape. Make sure that the surface is as even as possible as this will allow you to achieve a consistent engraving result. Engrave and cut the design.
Colour | Process | Power (%) | Speed (%) | ppi/Hz |
---|---|---|---|---|
Black | Engrave CO2 | 50 | 50 | 500 |
Red | Cut CO2 | 50 | 1.5 | 1000 |
Passes | Air Assist | Z-Offset | Advanced |

Remove your patch from the laser and if required, clean it using a damp cloth. Your patch can be attached to jeans, jackets, caps or other clothing items with a simple needle and thread.
Your imagination is the limit when creating designs for patches. From names and slogans to the logo of a start-up company or the local football team. Everything is possible, and the range of use is almost limitless.
