Customizing cutlery

In this tutorial, we show you how you can upgrade stainless steel cutlery using a laser. The annealing process keeps the surface intact and the pieces can be cleaned easily.

This tutorial will show you how to add value to stainless steel cutlery using your laser machine. The laser marking process of annealing keeps the sufrace of the material intact.

Preparation

Materials required

Stainless steel cutlery
Lego to use as a jig for positioning the items into the laser machine

Laser machine used

Speedy 360 flexx, 30 W fiber laser
2.85" lens
Vacuum table laser processing table

For this sample you can use any Speedy Flexx or Speedy fiber laser.

Important information

If you dont use lego for positioning the material into the machine, make sure that the surface is as flat as possible (parallel to the table)

Step by step

Step 1

Step 1: Design

Start by importing our template or creating your own design. Send the job to the laser with the following printer driver settings.

Printer driver settings:

The next step is to determine and set the laser parameters. These will vary depending on your laser machine and its available laser power.

TIP:

As a custom jig we have used Lego bricks as they are a practical solution if you have to compensate different heights or define exact positions of the workpieces. This is especially useful when the production of a template does not make sense.

Step 3: Post-processing

Thanks to the annealing process no post-processing is necessary. Your cutlery is still dishwasher-proof while the designs will remain intact.
