Suitable materials for laser cutting and engraving

Acrylic (PMMA) is ideal for laser processing projects such as illuminated advertisements, signage, point of sales displays and more. Without any additional post-processing, the laser cut results in shiny, flame polished edges. Panels up to a thickness of 25 mm can be cut efficiently and cost-effectively. Acrylic can be engraved to create a matted finish with the CO2 laser, or marked to create a colour change with the fiber laser.

Suitable materials for laser cutting and engraving

  • Plexiglas®
  • Altuglas®
  • Acrylite®
  • TroGlas®
  • Madre Perla®
  • Plazit®
  • Perspex®
  • Quinn®
  • Oroglas®
  • Plaskolite®

Applications

The laser beam is the universal "tool" for acrylic processing regardless of the shape and material thicknesses. The advantages of laser cutting are undisputed in the plastics and advertising technology sector.

  • Advertising technology
  • Digital printing
  • Shop and exhibition stand construction
  • Architectural model construction
  • Displays
  • POS materials
  • Letters
  • Outdoor and indoor signs
  • Acrylic trophies

Why should I buy a laser for acrylic cutting?

Flame-polished cutting edges without additional post-processing of materials: Due to significantly lower processing costs, acrylic processing with laser technology is up to 88% less expensive than processing with a milling cutter (saving on processing time for tensioning and post-processing of the material, tools).

Function and advantages of laser technology

Flame-polished cutting edges without additional post-processing

  • Time and cost-intensive manual polishing of the matte cutting edge is eliminated

Advantages of a Trotec laser

  • Precise axis drives and intelligent air flow ensure optimum laser cutting results

Faster cuts

  • Compared to milling cutters, laser cutting is 2-3 times faster depending on the power output used

Advantages of a Trotec laser

  • Carefully designed beam paths and sophisticated path planning

Non-contact processing

  • No time-consuming fixating of materials in comparison to milling cutters
  • No warping of the material

Advantages of a Trotec laser

  • Multifunctional table concept for easy handling

Fine tools

  • Small shapes and radiuses can be cut to a tenth of a millimeter

Advantages of a Trotec laser

  • Ideal optics and beam quality

No tool wear

  • No wear of the laser beam from the material processing
  • No costs for new tools unlike milling cutters

Advantages of a Trotec laser

  • CeramiCore laser sources with a particularly long service life

No shavings

  • The acrylic is evaporated by the laser. No shavings are produced unlike other technologies.

Advantages of a Trotec laser

  • The resulting gases are efficiently removed and filtered out by the Trotec exhaust systems.

Characteristic and productive engravings

  • Engraving produces a high-quality matting effect on the surface, which acts as a decorative element
  • There is no need for time-consuming "cleaning." Unlike standard milling cutters, the laser engraving is achieved within seconds

Advantages of a Trotec laser

  • Speedy series: The fastest laser engravers available on the market with a maximum laser engraving speed of 3.55 m/sec and an acceleration of 5g.

Cast PMMA is cut without burrs

  • The need for time-consuming deburring is eliminated

Advantages of a Trotec laser

  • Optimal beam quality and high-quality optical components create perfect laser cuts

Simple digital manufacturing

Designs are created in your usual graphics program and sent to the printer via the printer command

Advantages of a Trotec laser

  • JobControl® laser software: Simply intuitive. Work efficiently.
"Our Trotec has made things a lot faster and easier. We ended up going with them because they looked the part and put a lot of effort in with us. We’ve had a great experience with everything along the way, from the sale up to technical support, we simply can’t fault it."
- Matthew Fleming - McMordie Bros -
"We were dead set on getting a laser by another manufacturer, and saw that the Speedy 400 was about to be released and decided to wait for it since it was perfect for us and during testing provided a superior finishing on the corners and edges. The laser is the business for us: without it we wouldn’t exist."
- Darren Simmons - owner of Expression Products -
"We originally purchased our Speedy 500 for one job and decided to go with Trotec because we knew that the laser would give us the freedom and flexibility to expand our business in the future, and it’s been the complete right decision. Trotec’s reputation as a manufacturer who provide flexible machines is definitely justified. The speed, quality and versatility of our laser is amazing."
