Flower Swing Made From Solid Wood

In only a few steps and minimal material you can make this flower swing from solid wood. The ideal present for Mother's Day!

Preparation

Materials required

1 sheet solid wood alder, 5mm
Covering material such as paper

Solid wood is available to purchase from the Trotec webshop.

Laser machine used

Speedy 360, 80 watts
2" lens
aluminium cutting table

Any Speedy laser engraving machine can be used to create this sample.

Tips

Due to the arrangement and resizing of the design to fit the material, you can cut two flower swings from a 600x300mm plate.

Step by step

Step 1

Step 1: Importing the design

Import our graphics and modify them to your requirements. Our file is designed for 5mm thick material. For materials of other thickness, make the required adjustments to the elements. Send the file to your Trotec laser machine with the following settings:

Step 2

Step 2: Laser cutting and laser engraving solid wood alder

Insert the solid wood plate into your Trotec laser machine and cover the remaining working surface with paper to create vacuum and engrave and cut out the job. For a uniform look, you can also laser engrave the back of the material. To do this, remove the cut shapes and place them back in the same position, back side facing up. Now you can repeat the laser engraving job. Pleae note, the parameters will vary depending on your laser machine and available laser power:

Step 3

Step 3: Assembly

Insert the two parts of the flower swing into one another and then place the circular support plate on it. Hang the flower swing from the ceiling with either silk or cord and include a floral decoration. Your decoration is now complete.

Inspiration

Use different woods such as Fullwood or 6mm MDF-Sheets from our material range for this DIY, as these materials are stable and resilient. Be sure to adjust the notches for the connector when selecting MDF.
Combine bright and dark solid wood varieties for an effective contrast.
For a special look, paint the cut parts on both sides before laser engraving. This will give the design a unique appearance. MDF is the right material choice for this.
