Display for Aluminium Tags
See how you can make a trendy display for your aluminium tags out of Trotec materials.
Preparation
Required material:
- 1/4 sheet of TroGlass Satins black, 3 mm
- 1 sheet solid wood cherry large, 300 x 600 mm
- 1 sheet veneer wood cherry
- Self-adhesive tape
- Material to cover the processing table
Machine used:
- Speedy 360, 80 watt
- 2" lens
- Vacuum table with acrylic cutting grid (for TroGlass)
- Aluminium cutting table (for wood cutting)
This display can of course also be produced with all other machines of the Speedy family or SP series.
Important
For best cutting results, use the acrylic grid table for TroGlass and the aluminium cutting grid table for the wood.
For optimum vacuum, place the material and cover the rest of the engraving table.
Step by step
Step 1: Wooden back part
Import our design template into your graphic program and adapt it according to your requirements. Start with the wood back part. Send the graphic to JobControl® using the following parameters.
Tip:
To save material, we cut out material from the back part because it is mostly covered by the acrylic front part
Print settings
Process | Resolution | Cut line |
---|---|---|
Standard | 500 dpi | none |
Halftone | Others |
---|---|
color | enhanced geometries, inner geometries first |
Step 2: Laser process back part
Insert the veneered wood and maximise the vacuum to compensate for any unevenness. Cut the back part, and then clean it with a damp cloth. The suggested parameters can differ depending on the machine used and available laser power.
Laser Parameters:
Color | Process | Power (%) | Speed (%) | ppi/Hz |
---|---|---|---|---|
red | cutting CO2 | 100 | 1.0 | 1000 |
Passes | Air Assist | Z-Offset | Advanced |
---|---|---|---|
1 | on | - | - |
Step 3: Hanging bars
Now it's time for the small parts: Send the graphic to your Trotec laser. The black-white gradients in the bars safely hold the ball chains due to the slight depressions in the material.
Print settings
Process | Resolution | Cut line |
---|---|---|
Relief | 500 dpi | none |
Halftone | Others |
---|---|
inactive | - |
Step 4: Laser process hanging bars
Put the solid wood into your Trotec laser and make sure that it lies flat. Engrave and cut the hanging bars.
Tip:
Due to the small geometry of the hanging bars, we reduced the JobControl® standard parameter and increased the correction to 20.
Laser Parameters
Color | Process | Power (%) | Speed (%) | ppi/Hz |
---|---|---|---|---|
Black | engraving CO2 | 80 | 50 | 500 |
Red | cutting CO2 | 100 | 1.0 | 1000 |
Passes | Air Assist | Z-Offset | Advanced |
---|---|---|---|
2 | on | - | - |
1 | on | - | 20 |
Step 5: Adhesive letters
The adhesive letters from veneered wood are a special highlight of this display. The frame around the letters work as a positioning aid. Send the file to the laser using the following parameters.
Tip:
For the letters you can use the material that we cut out from the back part. Before you start cutting, attach some double-sided adhesive tape.
Print settings
Process | Resolution | Cut line |
---|---|---|
Standard | 500 dpi | none |
Halftone | Others |
---|---|
color | enhanced geometries, inner geometries first |
Step 6: Laser process adhesive letters
Put the veneered wood with double-sided adhesive tape into your Trotec laser, cut the adhesive letters and clean them with a damp cloth. Now put a strip of paper tape over the letters so that you can easily remove them from the machine.
Laser Parameters
Color | Process | Power (%) | Speed (%) | ppi/Hz |
---|---|---|---|---|
red | cutting CO2 | 100 | 0.8 | 1000 |
Passes | Air Assist | Z-Offset | Advanced |
---|---|---|---|
1 | on | - | - |
Step 7: Stand
For static reasons we produced the stand from two layers of solid wood. The graphic is the same for both parts.
Important:
Check whether the material thicknesses of front and back part fit into the slot of the stand and adapt them if necessary.
Print settings
Process | Resoltion | Cut line |
---|---|---|
standard | 500 dpi | none |
Halftone | Others |
---|---|
color | enhanced geometries, inner geometries first |
Step 8: Laser process stand
Make the parameter setting. Position the solid wood into your Trotec laser and make sure that it lies flat. Duplicate the job in JobControl® and cut both stands. Clean them with a damp cloth.
Laser Parameters
Color | Process | Power (%) | Speed (%) | ppi/Hz |
---|---|---|---|---|
red | cutting CO2 | 100 | 1.2 | 1000 |
Passes | Air Assist | Z-Offset | Advanced |
---|---|---|---|
1 | on | - | - |
Info:
- We used the standard laser parameters from JobControl® for solid wood

Step 9: Front part
For the final part of the display, remove the aluminium cutting grid and insert the vacuum table. Put the acrylic cutting grid on the vacuum table. Send the graphic to the laser using the following settings:
Print settings
Process | Resolution | Cut line |
---|---|---|
Standard | 500 dpi | none |
Halftone | Others |
---|---|
color | enhanced geometries, inner geometries first |
Step 10: Laser process front part
Put the TroGlass Satins into your Trotec laser. Remove the protective foil from the front.
Laser Parameter
Color | Process | Power (%) | Speed (%) | ppi/Hz |
---|---|---|---|---|
black | engraving CO2 | 18 | 20 | 500 |
red | cutting CO2 | 50 | 0.2 | 5000 |
Passes | Air Assist | Z-Offset | Advanced |
---|---|---|---|
1 | on | - | High Quality |
1 | on | - | - |
Step 11: Assembly
Fix the wooden adhesive letters on the black acrylic front part of the display. Then insert the hanging bars. Finally, put the front and back part into the stand. Your self-made display is ready.
