Customized laser solutions for watch and jewellery production

With our customizing service, we adapt the laser system to your individual production requirements so that you can process all watch components. Here is a small selection of customization options:

  • Camera solutions

Increase process reliability with the Trotec VTTL (Vision Thru The Lens) camera. This enables fully automatic detection of external contours (e.g. circumference) and objects (e.g. drill holes), as well as high-precision alignment of marking/engraving content to the workpiece. In combination with autofocus, very precise focus determination (Z-distance) is possible.

  • Software customization

The workflow of the laser process can be defined in the SpeedMark software and thus optimally adapted to your workflow. Our software specialists at the Galvo Competence Center can help you with this, as well as with more complex processes or ERP integration.

  • Product handling

Our customizing also allows the integration of automation or partial automation, for example, if you require palletizing, robot handling or workpiece fixtures, circular engraving, etc.

  • Laser sources for special applications

Thanks to our customizing, Trotec laser systems can be equipped with other laser sources in addition to fiber or CO2 lasers. Depending on material properties, processing requirements and cycle times, UV lasers, PICO lasers or FEMTO lasers are available.

Laser marking for watch cases

Watch cases are now made from a variety of high quality materials - including stainless steel (316L / 904L), titanium (grade 2 or 5), carbon and gold in yellow, red or white gold variants. Platinum is also used for the most exclusive models. Wood is also used in niche markets. Laser technology is the ideal tool for precise and durable finishing of semi-finished products such as case centers, bezels or backs. It can be used to engrave:

  • Security and serial numbers
  • Brand logos and technical information
  • Decorative elements and structures
  • Small engravings such as QR codes or microlettering

Regardless of the shape of the case - round, oval, square, rectangular, tonneau or cushion-shaped - laser processing can be flexibly adapted to the design and function. The result is eye-catching details that perfectly combine aesthetics and function.

Laser engraving for dials, hands, and indexes

Dials, hands and indexes can be very precisely finished with logos, markings and intricate structures, even on sensitive or difficult-to-machine materials. Compared to traditional manufacturing, laser technology enables the realization of shapes and details that are difficult or impossible to achieve with mechanical processes. Again, the range of materials is vast: precious metals, brass, ceramics, mother-of-pearl, enamel or plastic - almost any material can be laser engraved to a high standard and permanently. Suppliers customize the semi-finished products exactly according to the manufacturer's design and brand requirements - precisely, contact-free and reproducibly.

Laser solutions for fastening & watch buckles

Milanese, rubber or leather watch straps and buckles can be perfectly laser engraved with the manufacturer's logo or custom graphics and lettering without contact, replacing embossing or hot stamping.

Jewelry bracelets, necklaces or rings can also be personalized quickly and easily and are therefore also used by jewelers (retailers). With Trotec laser systems, there is a suitable laser system for every requirement, from small desktop devices to integrated solutions or customized solutions.

Laser engraving and cutting in jigs and fixtures

There are numerous applications for increasing efficiency, occupational safety, theft protection and more in jig and fixture construction at watch brands or suppliers. For example, the marking of watchmaking tools or assembly aids, the cutting of inserts (e.g. foam) for tools, but also the cutting and engraving of warning and information signs or type plates for machines, rooms and buildings.

Laser packaging solutions for watches and jewelry

By cutting, perforating or scoring, you are free to choose both the shape and the material. This makes your packaging anything but a simple die-cut box, and the insert material can also be cut with the laser. The most commonly used materials are cardboard, plastic, wood, etc. In addition to cutting standard or custom boxes, this packaging can also be personalized with laser engraving with little effort.

Laser prototyping for watches

Often, prototypes or single pieces are produced in rapid prototyping or in the training workshop. Laser technology is perfect for these tasks. For example, you can produce a 1:10 scale watch movement from wood or plexiglass quickly, safely and easily. To see the advantages over other technologies such as 3D printing.

Laser applications in the salesroom / PoS

Here are also many possible applications in the salesroom. First of all, jewelry and watch cases can be personalized. At the same time, it is also possible to produce and label displays for exhibits made of organic materials such as acrylic or wood. In addition, we can engrave or cut signs and giveaways for customers and employees, foil lettering for windows and vehicles, office supplies such as stamps and notebooks, etc. Our wide range of products offers the right laser system for every need, making it effective and easy for employees to use.

Extract of laser processing possibilities for watches and jewelry

  • Annealing marking  – for effective color design, e.g. of blued hands
  • Deep engraving – (relief engraving) particularly popular for watch backs for a haptic effect
  • Fine engraving – usually used for marking security numbers, logos or product features (e.g. water resistance)
  • Frosting – very precise, faster and less expensive than sandblasting
  • Structuring – non-contact technology enables geometries to be created in the smallest of spaces
  • Decoration – impressive effects can be achieved with 2.5D or 3D engraving
  •  Perlage - decoration in a special round cloud shape
  •  Matting -  to achieve an anti-reflective surface on dials
  • Carbonizing – the laser can be used to absorb the color pigmentation of plastics and some paints, allowing a color change to occur without changing the surface Perforation – this operation can be useful for packaging and bracelets. It decorates organic materials such as leather, wood, cardboard, etc. or prepares them for further processing

Laser applications are used for atomic watches, automatic watches, chronometers, pilot watches, radio controlled watches, wooden watches, kinetic watches, lepine watches, mechanical watches, military watches, officer's watches, outdoor watches, pendulum watches, quartz watches, savonnette watches, sailing watches, skeleton watches, smart watches, sports watches, pocket watches, diving watches, yacht timers and many more.

How you can engrave watches or laser mark watch parts.

Functional laser markings for identifying watch parts and traceability, but also fine engravings for individuality, are indispensable in the watch industry. Logos, textures and graphics for decorative markings are laser marked on watch parts in the highest quality and true to detail. For example, you can mark movements, watch springs, oscillating weights, bezels, crowns, watch housing, watch backs or dials using the laser machine. The advantage of laser marking is the high precision, because particularly small and delicate watch parts can be marked or engraved efficiently, quickly and with high precision.

What our customers say.

“As well as improving the quality of the cut and being able to take on a wider range of custom orders, our SP2000 laser cutters have enabled us to make acrylic tools for our other pieces of equipment in-house. We’ve also been able to eliminate working with machine shops to produce molds and prototypes for new projects. Now we’re able to manufacture these parts on our own laser machines in record time!”

“A laser cutting machine has many advantages, everyone knows that. But productivity and efficiency are crucial to a company’s success. Customers expect high quality as well as fast and punctual delivery. Downtime is unacceptable. Therefore, when buying a laser system, it’s important to consider not only the performance of the system itself, but also the service and support provided by the supplier.”
