Step 2: Laser engraving the photo frame

Place the photo frame on your laser machine's work table. Be sure that the areas you want to engrave are laid flat, since both the wooden frame and the glass will be engraved together in a single pass. Be aware that you will also need a distance holder because of the frame's back leg. Focus the laser on the glass.

Since we are engraving two materials with different heights, we need to calculate the z-Offset. For this project, since the difference between our two materials' heights is 7 mm, we set the z-Offset to +7 mm. Please keep in mind that depending on your laser machine and the specific photo frame that you are using, these settings can change.

Laser Parameters Color Process Power (%) Speed (%) ppi/Hz
Dark engraving (wood) Black Engrave CO2 35 50 500
Light engraving (wood) Red Engrave CO2 10 50 500
Engraving (glass) Blue Engrave CO2 40 50 500
Laser Parameters Passes Air Assist Z-Offset Advanced
Dark engraving (wood) 1 On +7 mm High Quality
Light engraving (wood) 1 On +7 mm High Quality
Engraving (glass) 1 On - -

Tip:

For the distance holders, you could use any leftover scraps of acrylic or MDF if you have them. Cut them into circles or cross shapes for easier use.
