Customizing cutlery

In this tutorial, we show you how you can upgrade stainless steel cutlery using a laser. The annealing process keeps the surface intact and the pieces can be cleaned easily.

Preparation

Required material
  • Stainless steel cutlery
  • Lego for positioning items in the machine
Machine used
  • Speedy 360 flexx
  • 30 W fiber laser
  • 2.85" lens
  • vacuum table

Any machine in the Speedy Flexx laser engraver series may be used.

Important

If positioning the material in the machine, be sure that the surface is as flat as possible, parallel to the table.

Step 1: Design

Use our design or make your own. Send the job to the laser with the below printer driver settings.

Step 2: Laser process

Check the parameters then set them. These settings may change based on the laser machine you use and the laser power available.

TIP:

We used Lego bricks because they are extremely useful if you have to compensate for a variety of heights or have to define exact positions. They are particularly useful in situations where producing a template wouldn't make sense.

Step 3: Post-processing

No post-processing is required. Your cutlery can still go into the dishwasher.
