Make Your Own Laptop Bag
Use your laser to cut, mark, and engrave textiles. We used softshell fabric to create this functional laptop bag.
*For this DIY project, you can use any laser machine from the Speedy laser engraver series.
Why not experiment with different designs for a personalised effect?
You can import our template or create your own design. The file provided is suitable for a 14" laptop, but you can easily adapt it to any other device size.
The design consists of two parts: an outer component (with the pattern) and an inner component with a contour and marking for the seam.
Using the following printer driver settings, send the job to your laser:
Standard | 500 dpi | none |
Process mode | Resolution | Cut line |
---|
Colour | Optimized geometries, inner geometries first |
Halftone | Others |
---|
Position the fabric (interior facing downwards) on the laser bed. Begin with the first graphic. Of course, you can personalise and individualize the bag before this step. Once you cut out the laptop cover, turn it over and, if required, use the laser to mark the seam line. It is strongly advised that you test your fabric prior to processing the entire piece.
You may need to adjust the laser parameters depending on the your specific laser machine and the laser power available.
NOTE: The parameters for black softshell fabric are only necessary if you also want to engrave the material.

Insert the eyelet before you close the lateral seam. Please follow the instructions provided with your eyelet set. Next, close the seam on the left and the right sides of the cover. The scratching lines help you to use the correct position for the seam. Finally insert the fabric elastic band and knot it together.
Now, your laptop bag is ready!
