Application examples for laser cut leather

Leather is used in the production of clothing, gift items and decorations. Laser engraving leather creates a tangible haptic effect on the leather surface. This way end products can be customized or given a special finish. Our leather engraving lasers can do anything below:

  • Bracelets
  • Belts
  • Shoes
  • Purses
  • Wallets
  • Briefcases
  • Clothing
  • Accessories
  • Promotional items
  • Office products
  • Crafts

Why should I buy a laser for marking leather?

Leather is tough and offers strong resistance to every tool used on it. The only exception: The laser beam. Our leather engraving machines are contact-free. Another positive side effect: The laser produces consistent results, without wear and tear when laser engraving leather. The laser beam of a leather engraving machine melts the material and the results are clean, perfectly sealed edges.

Function and advantages of laser technology

Perfect sealed edges when laser cutting

  • No fraying
  • No post-processing is required

Advantages of a Trotec laser

  • The high-quality axis drive and intelligent routing of air flow of the Trotec lasers

Productive processing

  • Laser cutting is faster than knife cutting
  • Thanks to contactless machining there is no resistance on the material

Advantages of a Trotec laser

  • Speedy series: The fastest laser engravers available on the market with a maximum processing speed of 4.2 m/sec and an acceleration of 5 g

Non-contact processing

  • No time-consuming fixating of materials in comparison to other processing methods
  • No warping of the material

Advantages of a Trotec laser

  • Multifunctional table concept for easy handling

Simple high-quality manufacturing

  • Designs are created in the usual graphics program and sent via the print command to the laser
  • Higher quality processing thanks to the haptic effect, which cannot be achieved with textile printing

Advantages of a Trotec laser

  • JobControl® laser software: Simply intuitive. Work efficiently

One tool for all geometries

  • The tool's diameter does not have to be taken into account
  • Depending on the lens used the laser beam is about 0.1 mm wide.

Advantages of a Trotec laser

  • High-quality optics and best beam quality

No tool wear

  • No wear of the laser beam due to material processing
  • No costs for new tools unlike with milling cutters

Advantages of a Trotec laser

"Trotec’s technical support has kept us moving forward so that we could meet our deadlines. Trotec has made someone available to us for one-on-one assistance whether that be technical phone support or a training session at their facility. This has saved us countless hours of trial-and-error testing on our own!"

"For my Spring collection I've used the Speedy 400 to laser cut and engrave maroon and brown leathers to make my designs. We needed the Speedy 400 for the bigger bed size, it worked out quite wonderfully. I was very happy with the laser and how quickly and easily it could cut my leather outfits. "

Tips for laser engraving leather

Is it necessary to fixate the material on the working surface?

No. In laser processing, no pressure is exerted on the material. No clamping or other type of fixation is required. Simply insert the workpiece and start lasering. This saves time and money in material preparation.

What must be taken into account when processing genuine leather?

Genuine leather is a natural material, and there are countless types that respond individually to laser processing. Therefore, it is difficult to determine general rules for processing. Generally, however, the following can be said: If genuine leather is distorted, reduce the laser power. This is because too much heat acts on the material.

Can any type of leather be processed with the laser?

You can process both genuine and synthetic leather, aka. leatherette, with the laser. Note, however, that synthetic leather often contains PVC compounds. Such materials must not be processed with the laser. There is a danger that harmful gases may be released.

How to clean a finished workpiece optimally?

One must distinguish between genuine leather and leatherette here. For genuine leather, we unfortunately cannot recommend any cleaning agents. Cleaning agents that are too aggressive can dry the material out or form spots. If you still want to use a cleaning agent, please try this on an inconspicuous area or even better on a test strip. Leatherette, by contrast, can be easily cleaned with a damp sponge without losing its shape.
