Choosing the correct nozzle for your laser machine can be the key to a perfect result or a failed effort. Additionally, the nozzle is the lens' main source of protection against dust and debris. Read on to discover which nozzle best suits your application.

Short Nozzle with Large Hole Diameter (7mm)

The short nozzle with the large hole diameter (7mm) is the standard nozzle. It can be used for both laser engraving and laser cutting applications. When cutting, this nozzle is primarily used with acrylic. This is because the material isn't cooled down as quickly, and this creates a beautiful, flame polished edge.

Short Nozzle with Small Hole Diameter (3mm)

The short nozzle with the smaller hole diameter (3mm) is mostly used for cutting materials that may create an excess amount of smoke, like wood. Due to the small opening, the concentrated airflow is directed into the kerf, blowing away any emerging smoke and cutting the gases, ultimately protecting your machine from damage. However, this nozzle is not suitable for dust-intensive materials, like plastic and rubber. The engraving dust tends to settle at the opening of the nozzle and has a bad habit of blocking it. This can then cause burn holes in the lens.

Long Nozzle with Small Hole Diameter (3mm)

This nozzle is specifically made for being used with the 2.5" lens, which is why it has such a long nozzle. This compensates for the larger focal distance between the 2.5" lens and your chosen material. The properties of the nozzle are all the exact same as those of its shorter counterpart (see above).

Copper Nozzles for Cutting with Compressed Air

When you are laser cutting with compressed air on the SP500, there are some additional copper nozzles available for use. They have a hole diameter of 1.7mm for the short nozzles. Due to this extremely small diameter, the airflow is directed straight into the kerf in an even, targeted manner. Thus, you'll achieve a perfect laser cut on thicker materials like 5mm wood and polycarbonate. Depending on the lens you are using and the resulting focal distance, there are four different attachment lengths you can choose from.
