With a Trotec laser, cutting your fabrics and textiles to size can be done with both efficiency and ease. Laser engraving your materials can provide both a tactile effect and unparalleled high-quality finish. Whether your application is cutting unique and fine detailed shapes out of polyester, or engraving on a wide variety of other materials, laser engraving machines offer nearly endless design possibilities. Even applications with synthetic substances can be laser engraved, as these types of materials react very well during processing. Laser machines are ideal for processing polyester, because they perfectly seal the edges once heat is applied from the laser beam, and the material is left without any fraying.
Laser engraving and cutting of fabrics
When cutting textiles with a laser system, the laser will process the materials with both flexibility and precision. The heat that is applied by the laser beam melts the materials during the cutting process, resulting in clean and perfectly sealed edges. Furthermore, for textile applications that are engraved, end products can be given a special finish as the laser will create a tactile and visual effect.
Laser processing is a non-contact and tool-free process, so cutting single-layer fabrics can be completed efficiently as well as at an accelerated pace compared to traditional knife processing. Fabrics and textiles are left untouched during laser cutting, which eliminates the possibility of the materials being warped. By the laser beam melting the materials, the finished product will have edges that are both clean and sealed.
"I've had my Trotec for 8 years this month with only one day of down time. It's rugged, reliable and fast. It is by far the easiest machine on the market to keep clean. I'm still using my original lens and mirrors. If I buy a new machine it will be a Trotec."- Mike Null - St. Louis Laser -
"We have a small business and our laser was the first large purchase. Our Trotec Laser has been great for the business. It is a very versatile machine! "- Eric Larson - Clear Irons, LLC -
Synthetic fabrics commonly composed of plastics such as polyester, and respond very well to laser processing. The beam melts these fabrics in a controlled manner, resulting in fiber-free and sealed edges. Organic fabrics such as linen or cotton will process similarly to wood, and a brownish discoloration will appear on the cut edge. This effect can be reduced greatly by utilizing the appropriate laser parameters, lens, and implementing compressed air.
Laserflexx is a superior-quality, multi-layered film that has been designed specifically for purpose of laser processing. Textiles can be enriched with customized designs, lettering, and logos with a screen-like finish. Depending on the speed of your laser plotter and power, optimal laser settings will vary. For processing Laserflexx, we recommend utilizing the highest possible power setting for your exhaust system, as well as processing the materials from the bottom up. In doing so, any dust as a result from processing is no longer an issue.
