Tips for laser cutting and laser engraving of toys

Things to consider before you laser process a wooden toy 

Wood is a natural material, so when you are planning a project you should consider factors such as the density and the resin content of the wood you are processing. Soft woods, such as balsa, require less laser power and can be cut more quickly. Hardwood, on the other hand, is denser so it requires more laser power. For MDF, which consists of glued wood fibers, we recommend using compressed air.

Is the wood engraving always dark?

The brownish-colored laser engraving is very common. When you process varnished wood with the appropriate laser settings, you can also achieve a white engraving. To do this, we recommend very low power at high speed.

How to handle smoke in the processing area

Laser processing of wood is a sublimation process -- meaning that the solid material combusts and is subsequently converted directly into gas. Dust is also formed, which appears like smoke. To handle these by-products created during wood processing, we recommend that you use an efficient extraction system. This will help you achieve perfect engraving and cutting results and increase the service life of your laser machine.
