Ruby® 2.8 – 27.02.2024

New functions:

Smart dashboard

With the new Speedy 360 S and Speedy 400 S, you now have all the relevant information at a glance. A dashboard provides a comprehensive overview of the current status of your machine and your Atmos Pure exhaust system. You can check the condition of the machine components and quickly identify faults directly from Ruby®.

The dashboard also provides crucial information about the Atmos Pure exhaust system, such as the air flow rate and filter service life.

Air flow of the exhaust system

Thanks to the new Speedy 360 S and Speedy 400 S, you can now adjust the airflow of the Atmos Pure exhaust system directly in the Ruby® material database. The optimum airflow for every material and every application can be easily set. Optimum extraction parameters are already stored in the software.

Anchor point to laser

You can now start your laser job exactly at the current position of the laser head. By default, the anchor point is set at the top left of every job. However, as soon as the "Anchor point" symbol is activated, you now have the option of moving designs directly via the touch display and producing them exactly where the laser pointer is currently located. The decisive advantage is that jobs can also be repositioned directly via the touch display.

Link / Break apart

In the design area, you now have the option of linking and separating vectors. This allows existing objects to be divided into individual parts. This is particularly useful if, for example, only a certain part of the graphic is required or if you want to separate the text from an image. Separated elements can also be combined again.

New filling with the even-odd rule

With the update to version 2.8 of Ruby®, you also have the option of filling your designs according to the even-odd rule.

If you activate this option, the entire object will be filled; if you deactivate it, only the contours will be filled.

Rounded rectangles with absolute numbers

In the Ruby® 2.8 design screen, you can now create rectangles with rounded corners. Simply draw your rectangle and use the option settings on the right to set the rounded corners with absolute numbers in mm or inches.

User import and export via CSV

Importing and exporting users to and from Ruby® via CSV files is now possible. There is no limit to the maximum number of users and a name and e-mail address are required. Imported users are created as active with access to the material database, but not as admin.

Note: the file name must not contain any spaces for the import

Improvements and updates:

Import profiles

With the customisation of the "Import profiles" function, designs and profiles are now available side by side. You will now find the profile area on the right-hand side, which makes your work easier. This allows you to work on several designs at the same time. In addition, you can now select the destination of the profile: "Save as design", "Save as job" and "Send to queue".

Units for DXF import

From now on, when uploading a DXF file in Ruby®, a dialogue box will automatically appear asking you for the units in the DXF file. This has the considerable advantage that the scaling of the files is always done correctly by setting the units during the import.

Timer can count in both directions, up or down

With a simple click, you now have the option of determining whether the processing time of the job is counted down or up. If the remaining time is counted down, you can immediately see how long the job will take and how much additional time still needs to be scheduled.

Standard user settings

In terms of efficiency, we have also made some improvements to the user settings. Ruby® now allows you to define some standard user settings, such as activating internal geometries. These are saved individually per account/machine and serve as default values. If certain default settings are required on an ongoing basis, this saves a lot of time.

Service ticket

Quick and easy help directly in Ruby®. Submit your request directly to us via Ruby®. A service ticket button with a link to the website has been integrated into the menu section on the left-hand side. This allows you to request support quickly and easily.

You no longer have to search for contact details, but can request support directly from the Ruby® platform.

Registration marks

White registration marks can now also be recognised on a black background. You can now select in Ruby® whether only black registration marks on a light background (our default) or whether white registration marks on a dark background should also be recognised. If this option is deactivated, Ruby® will try to recognise light-coloured registration marks on a dark background in addition to black on white.

Automatic calculation of the estimated working time

A function can now be activated in user management to automatically calculate the estimated duration of a job, as soon as it is added to the queue.

Each design is engraved individually

When engraving distributed designs on a worktop, you can now save a lot of time by activating the "By design" function in the material parameters. This means that each design is engraved separately and the laser no longer scans the entire path.

  • Design for VDP - Calibration jobs can now be downloaded directly from Ruby®
  • Network proxy settings on the Ruby® HMI
  • Character/word spacing: User can insert spaces between characters and words
  • Cancel background processes: Background processes such as nesting are cancelled by switching the page (Design -> Prepare). Elements in the queue that are being processed/prepared can be cancelled by the user - the background process is then stopped
  • A canvas is automatically scrolled if drag & drop elements are located near the visible edges of the canvas
  • Remove material from favourites
  • Adjustable search field size and search field type for VPC camera registration so that the system does not recognise false markings at the edge of the image
  • Adjustable TestPulsePower (FrontEnd): Increase or decrease TestPulsePower of the device so that the beam path (mirror, etc.) can be adjusted

Take control of the queue even if the device is not connected.

Notable bugfixes:

  • Number of arrays: Number of objects for grids
  • Pending Windows updates: The user is informed about pending Windows updates on the system on which Ruby® is installed.
  • Embedded MongoDB
  • An "automatic clean-up" of design files (pdf, svg, cdr, ai,...) which are no longer used in designs, jobs or in the queue in Ruby® takes place after 30 days.
