The laser beam fuses films and foils in a controlled manner, producing clear and sealed edges. Using a Trotec laser machine, you can cut the smallest radiuses quickly and easily. During laser cutting and engraving, there is no pressure whatsoever placed on the material. This means that the product will turn out perfect every single time. As opposed to working with a punch or knife, laser cutting films will never result in paint-chipping.
The benefits of a laser cutting machine: Much faster than a cutting plotter, more decisive than punching dies and great for rapid prototyping. Extremely economical – especially for small series (max 1,000 pieces)
Film Materials Suitable for Laser Cutting:
- Technical Films
- Polyethylene terephthalate
“How do I laser cut foils and films?”
The controlled fusing of materials ensures clean, crisp cutting edges every time – there is no need to worry about fraying or breakages. The laser offers many advantages when working with multilayer films; some layers (backing, adhesive and top films) can be cut in one processing step. Depending on the structure of the layer and the strength of the film, up to ten layers can be cut into the material at once.
“Do I need to fixate the material?”
No – not manually anyway. For optimal cutting results, we at Trotec recommend the use of a vacuum table. This ensures that thin or textured materials are always positioned flat and secure to the work table. No pressure is exerted on the material during this process, and clamping or fixating is never required. This can save you time and money during the preparation of your material. It also reduces material wastage and prevents crushing and damage.
“Why will I work faster with the laser than with a cutting plotter?”
Innovative axis drives and control panel systems ensure a precise and efficient job when laser marking films with Trotec machines. There is never any material resistance when using lasers, making laser cutting much faster. The laser beam never needs to be lifted or rotated like a knife.
Trotec laser systems make optimal use of their speed and detail, especially when working on delicate geometries. There are no replacement-tool and maintenance costs when using laser systems.
“Are special accessories required for accurate laser cutting?”
A camera system is the ideal partner when processing printed materials. ‘I-Cut®’ allows for perfect contour cutting on printed materials. Flexible materials like banners and flags are cut perfectly every single time. There is no need for time-consuming positioning. Distortions and imperfections can be detected automatically, and the cutting path will be dynamically adapted.
By combining the optical registration mark detection with Trotec laser technology, you can potentially save 30% on process costs. Manufacture, maintenance and storage is all free!
