All you need to know about our laser software Ruby
Ruby - the new software platform
Which machines are supported?
Finally, all Trotec laser will be supported by Ruby. The open beta currently supports the entire Speedy series (incl. CO2, Fiber, and Flexx) since 2001. The supported product range will continuously grow with the SP series next to come.
Does Ruby have network capability?
Yes, you can connect all computers within your local network with your Ruby PC. Therefore you can manage, design, prepare and send jobs to your laser from any computer in your network, even from a Mac. Only starting the laser needs to be done on the side.
Does web-based means Ruby runs on the internet?
Web-based is the technology used for Ruby. Web technology provides a powerful framework, but web-based products do not necessarily need to run online - they can also be utilized offline.
Will Ruby run in the cloud as well?
Yes, Ruby will be available online. Therefore, no more manual software installations will be required for your computer, and you can manage, design, prepare, and send jobs to the laser from anywhere, anytime. The online version of Ruby will also provide continuous updates over time and automatic backup of essential data.
Will it be possible to connect a web shop with Ruby?
Yes it will be possible to use Ruby's open programming interface - the Ruby API - to connect 3rd party systems like your webshop to minimize job creation time.
How to work with Ruby
How to change the default material in prepare?
Speed up your workflow and log your "favorite" materials. Ruby will automatically assign new jobs with your default material. The favorited material is available to be selected in the material database.
How to create material effects?
Materials effects can be modified and created in your material database. New effects can be added to the effect list. When an effect gets assigned to a material, a pre-defined layer mapping is set with the parameters adjusted.
Simply save or drag&drop your graphic files to the Ruby import folder. A shortcut to this folder is available in the Ruby® App.
Login not possible – Login Button stays grey
- Use only Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge Web-Browser.
- Check in your Task bar if the Ruby® App is started.

I cannot see all UI elements
Make sure your Windows Display Scaling is set to 100%.
Depending on the computer, it might automatically recommend 125% or 150% by default.
The laser does not process all objects
In the preparation phase, Ruby will show and highlight all layers that will be processed. Layers that will not be processed are transparent.
In the material card, all layers that have not been assigned to an effect are listed in the unassigned area.
To assign unmapped layers to click on the colored tile and select the desired effect.
Ruby and JobControl®
Will Ruby phase out JobControl® and if so how fast?
JobControl® is and will still be functional with your lasers and supported by Trotec. The Ruby upgrade is voluntary basis. Overall, the technology base for future developments will be Ruby, as it allows functionalities that have not been possible in the past. From today's perspective, we are planning to put JobControl® in a frozen state from mid-2022.
Some features we know from JobControl® are not yet in Ruby like
rotary, vision or ETC. When will these things be available in Ruby?
The named existing JobControl® features will be implemented during the next year. The Ruby development roadmap provides more insights.
