HolzKind: A Laser Business Growth Story
Precision, passion and Trotec’s support as main drivers of success.
Turning passion into a business with laser precision
HolzKind is a company based in the heart of Lower Austria, in Wetzmannsthal. Established in 2021, the company originated from a personal quest to find a meaningful Christmas gift for the daughter of the founder Melanie Wieser. The headquarters are in their home, where they have expanded the garage and basement to accommodate their growing business. Recently, they established the HolzKind Studio where customers can buy personalized products on the fly.
Their company now has two employees and specializes in wooden decorative items, which is the material they use the most. HolzKind’s decorative items include name circles, signs, cake toppers, engravings like memory boxes, lunch boxes, and snack boards – the possibilities with a laser are endless.

Q400, Speedy 400
We initially worked with a company that, unfortunately, let us down in terms of customer support. With Trotec, however, we can call with any question, no matter how small, we always receive helpful assistance. As a former social worker making a complete career change, I had to grow into my new role—and the support from Trotec has been truly invaluable throughout that journey.

HolzKind has enhanced production with a Q400 and a Speedy 400
HolzKind initially selected the Q400 laser machine primarily for its spacious working area, which is essential for their production needs. Rather than milling their Toni shelves as they had done previously, they transitioned to laser-cutting them—a change that significantly improved efficiency and precision. Additionally, their signature name circles, which can have diameters of up to 500 mm, require a large-format laser table to accommodate their size. Building on the success of this Trotec machine, HolzKind later expanded their capabilities by adding a Speedy 400 to their equipment lineup, further enhancing their production capacity and flexibility.
Laser software Ruby® as a game changer for automation
The Ruby® plays a crucial role in enabling HolzKind to operate both of their laser machines— the Q400 and the Speedy 400—efficiently and seamlessly. To further streamline their workflow, they developed a custom administrative tool that allows them to design and manage their creations in-house. Once a design is finalized, the tool lets them easily select which laser system to use for production. Thanks to the integration with Ruby®, they can control and access both machines through a single, unified software interface. "The profiles available in Ruby® made automation easier. We can set the material, method, and quality for laser cutting and apply it automatically to the product”, says Melanie. Ruby® not only simplifies their day-to-day operations but also enhances productivity and ensures consistent quality across all their laser-cut products.
