Step 1

Step 1: Import design

Creating your own design or by simply importing our template, you can now adapt it to your individual needs. In this example, we engraved a recess out of the base plate to hold the TroGlass Metallic ring. The following step is to send the job to the laser engraver using the below printer settings.

Driver settings:

Process mode Resolution Cut line
Cut Job 1000 dpi none
Halftone Others
Color Optimised geometries, inner geometries first
Laser cutting base plate
Step 2

Step 2: Cut the base plate

Insert your material; TroGlass Clear on the acrylic cutting grid of your Trotec laser engraver and place the 2.5" lens. Follow this by cutting the base using these recommended settings. Note: the parameters may differ depending on your laser machine and laser power used.

Laser Parameters Cutting

Colour Process Power (%) Speed (%) ppi/Hz
red Cut CO2 95 0.2 20000
Passes Air Assist Z-Offset Advanced
1 on -3 mm -

Step 3: Designing the "grass"

Forward your design of the grass to the laser engraver using these recommended settings.

Printer driver settings:

Process mode Resolution Cut line
Standard 500 dpi none
Halftone Others
Color Optimised geometries
TroGlass Color Gloss laser process
Step 4

Step 4: Laser processing the "grass"

Insert the dark green transparent TroGlass material onto the acrylic cutting grid of your Trotec laser engraver. For this example, use the 2" lens. Then follow this by engraving and cutting your design with these guidelines. The recommended guidelines may differ depending on the laser engraver and laser power used.

Laser parameters used for this example

Process Color Process Power (%) Speed (%)
Engraving black Engrave CO2 14 20
Cutting red Cut CO2 100 1
ppi/Hz Passes Air Assist Z-Offset Advanced
500 1 on 0mm High Quality
1000 1 on - -

Handy Tip:

We recommend starting the process of engraving from the bottom up so to avoid dust settling on the engraved area.

Step 5

Step 5: Designing the "Stem"

In this step, we send the design of the solid wood stem to the laser with the below settings.

Print settings:

Process mode Resolution Cut line
Cut Job 1000 dpi none
Halftone Others
- Optimised geometries
Laser process solid wood
Step 6

Step 6: Laser process "Stem"

Place the acrylic cutting grid towards the honeycomb cutting table and carefully position the veneer bamboo sheet. Now you may protect the remainder of the engraving area to maximize vacuum. Here are recommended cutting material parameters:

Laser Cutting Parameters

Colour Process Power (%) Speed (%) ppi/Hz
red Cut CO2 100 1 1000
Passes Air Assist Z-Offset Advanced
1 on - -

Handy Tip:

By enclosing the engraving area, you produce a vacuum which is essential for a clean and consistent cut.

Step 7

Step 7: Design "Blossoms"

The last step is to now send your design of the abstract blossoms to your laser engraver.

Print settings:

Process mode Resolution Cut line
Cut Job 1000 dpi none

Step 8

Step 8: Laser process "Blossoms"

Insert the bamboo veneer sheet inside your laser engraver, and position the rest of the engraving table. Now cut the blossoms using the following parameters:

Laser Parameters Cutting

Colour Process Power (%) Speed (%) ppi/Hz
red Cut CO2 100 1.2 1000
Passes Air Assist Z-Offset Advanced
1 on - -

Tip:

When cutting the full sheet, focus on the centre of the material to compensate for any differences in thickness.

Step 9

Step 9: Assembly

You can now place the stem inside the base and decorate it with the blossoms. Combine the large and small blossoms and lastly, position the grass into the base. The result is this stunning Mother's Day Bouquet

Handicraft tip:

Twisted blades of grass are an additional eye catcher. To make these, position the "blades of grass" into a bench vice or another heat-resistant holder. Take a hot air gun and carefully heat the filigree grass. Then deform and twist the hot acrylic. Remember the gloves please! Hold the acrylic in place until it is cooled down. And lastly, practice makes perfect so don't be afraid!

Inspiration

You may play around with other shades of TroGlass, e.g. TroGlass Satins or TroGlass LED to transform the "flower bouquet" into a custome workpiece.
