Creative wall decoration
In this DIY tutorial, we will show you how to create stunning wall décor using various Trotec materials.
Preparation
Required material
- 2 sheets of TroGlass Satins Black
- 1/4 sheet TroGlass Frosted Fuchsia with double-sided adhesive tape
- 1/4 sheet TroGlass Satins pink with double-sided adhesive tape
- 2 sheets TroLase Foil white/black
- 1 sheet Solid Wood Maple with double-sided adhesive tape
- 1 sheet MDF 6 mm with double-sided adhesive tape
- 1 package of signage mounting devices 16/16 mm
Machine used
- Speedy 360, 80 watts
- 2" lens
- Vacuum table with a honeycomb cutting table and acrylic cutting grid
For this application, you can use any laser machine from the Speedy laser engraver series.
Tip
Trotec offers a wide range of consumable materials that allow you to create highly customized products for your customers, in assorted color combinations.
Step by step
Step 1: Importing your design
Create your own unique design or import our suggested template. Adapt it to your requirements, and then send the job to the laser using the driver settings below.
Process mode | Resolution | Cut line |
---|---|---|
Vector Job | 1000 dpi | None |
Halftone | Others |
---|---|
Color | Optimized geometries |

Step 2: Laser cutting the TroGlass materials
Situate your first TroGlass workpiece on the acrylic cutting grid of your laser cutter, and cut the individual pieces. Repeat this step for the other materials as well, and please note, that the protective foil backing can be left on the material during processing to reduce the possibility of scratching. In our example, we removed the protective foil to avoid having to peel each individual piece off in small segments. Depending on your specific laser and the available power being used, laser parameters can also vary greatly:
Color | Process | Power (%) | Speed (%) | ppi/Hz |
---|---|---|---|---|
Red | Cut CO2 | 100 | 0.9 | 1000 |
Passes | Air Assist | Z-Offset | Advanced |
---|---|---|---|
1 | On | - | - |
Tip:
We processed this application with an SP500 laser cutter because of its overall large size, which could accommodate our design, as well as for its black back plate. If your laser system does not offer a large working area, consider reducing the complete graphic or only cut a round base plate.
Step 3: TroLase Foil
The two half circles of TroLase foil are the all-over background on which we place each individual piece. Using the following parameters, send the half circle to the laser:
Process mode | Resolution | Cut line |
---|---|---|
Vector Job | 1000 dpi | None |
Halftone | Others |
---|---|
Color | Optimized geometries |

Step 4: Cutting TroLase Foil
Using the following parameters, place the TroLase Foil (two pieces will be needed) on the acrylic grid and cut the half circle:
Color | Process | Power (%) | Speed (%) | ppi/Hz |
---|---|---|---|---|
Red | Cut CO2 | 40 | 2 | 1000 |
Passes | Air Assist | Z-Offset | Advanced |
---|---|---|---|
1 | On | - | - |
Step 5: Design Solid Wood Maple
Next, send the design for the MDF and solid wood maple to the laser with the following parameters:
Process mode | Resolution | Cut line |
---|---|---|
Vector Job | 1000 dpi | None |
Halftone | Others |
---|---|
Color | Optimized geometries |

Step 6: Cutting solid wood
Replace the acrylic cutting grid with the honeycomb cutting table and cut the maple wood using the following parameters:
Color | Process | Power (%) | Speed (%) | ppi/Hz |
---|---|---|---|---|
Red | Cut CO2 | 100 | 1.4 | 1000 |
Passes | Air Assist | Z-Offset | Advanced |
---|---|---|---|
1 | On | - | - |
Tip:
We suggest using the small nozzle with a lot of compressed air (if available) for clean cut edges

Step 7: Cutting MDF
Position the MDF plate into your Trotec laser and cut the single pieces using the following parameters:
Color | Process | Power (%) | Speed (%) | ppi/Hz |
---|---|---|---|---|
Red | Cut CO2 | 90 | 0.4 | 1000 |
Passes | Air Assist | Z-Offset | Advanced |
---|---|---|---|
1 | On | - | - |

Step 8: Assembly
The assembly of the decoration is the most time-consuming process of this sample.
First glue the two star like base plates with the circle of TroGlass Satins. Make sure that the two large pieces are well positioned edge to edge. Now turn the decoration and remove the protective foil (if you haven't removed it before cutting). Fix the two half circles of TroLase Foil. Now take the time to apply the pieces of the different materials
Fix it on the white base plate with glue once you have verified the correct positioning. Referencing an image of the finished graphic can be helpful during assembly, and you can locate this image in the accompanying document for download.
Once all pieces have been fixed and assembled, you can hang the wall décor with the use of proper mounting devices.

Inspiration
This décor can be used as a wall clock as well, simply cut an additional hole in the middle and insert the clockwork from the back
The décor can also be created to fit perfectly into any clubhouse, office, lounge, etc., by simply using other TroGlass colors and wood type combinations. More information on Trotec materials.
