Colour annealing keyring with MOPA laser

Request a demo

Learn how to create elegant coloured annealing on stainless steel using a Trotec MOPA laser machine. This simple step-by-step guide will show you how!

Preparation

Required Material:

  • 1x Stainless Steel Keyring

Machine Used:

Please note that for this project, you can use the Speedy fiber or Speedy flexx laser machines as well as any machine from the SpeedMarker series

Important:

Your results may vary slightly depending on what alloy you are using.

In order to achieve different colours, you will need to change the pulse width. When you are therefore using a standard fiber laser, from either the SpeedMarker or Speedy series, you will only achieve black markings.

Step by Step

Step 1: Design

You can either use our template we have provided below or have a go at creating an original and unique design. You then need to import the PDF with layers into the SpeedMark software and assign these parameters and fillings to the object.

Tip:

We recommend defining your parameters in advance:

Filling For Fill Style Line Distance [mm] Additional
Text Cross Lines (Bidirectional) 0.003 -
Letters Bidirectional 0.03 -
Lines Bidirectional 0.001 -
Dots Bidirectional 0.001 Optimise Filling
Wind Rose Bidirectional 0.001 Optimise Filling
Border None - -

Step 2: Laser Process

You then need to enter the parameter settings. Please note that these may differ depending on what laser machine is being used and the laser power made available.

Ensure that you position your workpiece using border marking. This will assist with accuracy.

Laser Parameter Process Power [%] Frequency [kHz]
Text Marking 50 150
Letters Marking 60 60
Lines Marking 60 189
Dots Marking 84 261
Wind Rose Marking 54 260
Border Positioning - -
Speed [mm/s] Pulse Width [ns] Passes
1000 200 1
2000 200 2
2000 8 1
2000 100 1
2000 100 1
- - -

Step 3: Post Processing

With this creation, no post-processing is required. Your keyring is now ready to use!
