Lasers are the ideal tool for direct marking on different materials. Further lasers can support other marking methods – e.g. for the fast and exact production of printing plates for pad printing.
With Trotec laser systems many different materials can be marked directly. And when a direct laser marking is not possible or not wanted (eg. If the marking shall be in a special colour), Trotec laser machines are the perfect tool also for indirect marking. Because the printing plates (mostly made of anodized aluminium or steel) that are used for pad printing can be ideally produced by laser engraving.
Pad printing (also called tampography) is an indirect offset printing process that involves an image being transferred from the printing plate (cliché) via a silicone pad onto a substrate. In order to get a hich prining quality the gravure bottom needs to be flat to enable a consistent ink film. The flatness of the bottom can be reached by using an engraving laser. Trotecs intelligent and intuitive marking software SpeedMark offers a special deep engraving function making the production of printing plates easier and faster.
Using laser systems for the production of printing plates has meanwhile become a common technology as lasers offer many advantages:
- No (manual) exposing and etching necessary
- Quick adaptions of graphics or text
- Serial numbers, graphics or import of external data (eg. from ERP systems)
- Very fine outlines and fonts
- Automation programs for serial production
- High quality due to consistent ink film
