See in this DIY sample how you can make a great wall decoration using different Trotec materials.
Preparation
Required material
- 2 sheets of TroGlass Satins Black
- 1/4 sheet TroGlass Satins Fuchsia with double-sided adhesive tape
- 1/4 sheet TroGlass Satins pink with double-sided adhesive tape
- 2 sheets TroLase Foil white/black
- 1 sheet Solid Wood Maple with double-sided adhesive tape
- 1 sheet MDF 6 mm with double-sided adhesive tape
- 1 package of signage mounting devices 16/16 mm
Machine used
- Speedy 360, 80 watts
- 2" lens
- vacuum table with acrylic cutting grid and honeycomb cutting table
For this sample you can use any laser machine from the Speedy laser engraver series.
Tip
Thanks to the big range of Trotec materials, you can offer alternative colors for your customers easily
Step by step
Step 1: Import design
Make your own design or import our template. Adapt it to your requirements. Send the job to the laser using the driver settings below.
Process mode | Resolution | Cut line |
---|---|---|
Vector Job | 1000 dpi | None |
Halftone | Others |
---|---|
Color | Optimized geometries |
Step 2: Cutting TroGlass Materials
Position the first TroGlass material on the acrylic cutting grid of your Trotec laser and cut the individual pieces. Do the same with the other materials as well. You can leave the protective foil on the material if you want. We removed it because we did not want to remove them for every single piece. Please note that the parameters used can differ depending on the laser machine used and the available laser power:
Color | Process | Power (%) | Speed (%) | ppi/Hz |
---|---|---|---|---|
Red | Cut CO2 | 100 | 0.9 | 1000 |
Passes | Air Assist | Z-Offset | Advanced |
---|---|---|---|
1 | On | - | - |
Tip:
Since we wanted to have a large overall design, we used a SP500 laser cutter for cutting the black back plate. The Speedy 360 was too small to do the job. If you do not have such a large working area, you can either reduce the complete graphic or cut a round base plate only.
Step 3: TroLase Foil
The two half circles of TroLase foil are the all-over background on which we put the individual pieces. Send the half circle to the laser using the following parameters:
Process mode | Resolution | Cut line |
---|---|---|
Vector Job | 1000 dpi | None |
Halftone | Others |
---|---|
Color | Optimized geometries |
Step 4: Cutting TroLase Foil
Put the TroLase Foil on the acrylic grid and cut the half circle using the following parameters. You will need 2 pieces.
Color | Process | Power (%) | Speed (%) | ppi/Hz |
---|---|---|---|---|
Red | Cut CO2 | 40 | 2 | 1000 |
Passes | Air Assist | Z-Offset | Advanced |
---|---|---|---|
1 | On | - | - |
Step 5: Design Solid Wood Maple
Now you can send the design for MDF and solid wood maple using the following parameters:
Process mode | Resolution | Cut line |
---|---|---|
Vector Job | 1000 dpi | None |
Halftone | Others |
---|---|
Color | Optimized geometries |
Step 6: Cutting solid wood
Change the acrylic cutting grid against the honeycomb cutting table and cut the maple wood using the following parameters:
Color | Process | Power (%) | Speed (%) | ppi/Hz |
---|---|---|---|---|
Red | Cut CO2 | 100 | 1.4 | 1000 |
Passes | Air Assist | Z-Offset | Advanced |
---|---|---|---|
1 | On | - | - |
Tip:
We recommend to use the small nozzle and a lot of compressed air (if available) for clean cutting edges
Step 7: Cutting MDF
Put the MDF plate into your Trotec laser and cut the single pieces using the following parameters:
Color | Process | Power (%) | Speed (%) | ppi/Hz |
---|---|---|---|---|
Red | Cut CO2 | 90 | 0.4 | 1000 |
Passes | Air Assist | Z-Offset | Advanced |
---|---|---|---|
1 | On | - | - |
Step 8: Assembly
The most time-consuming part of this sample is certainly the assembly of the decoration.
First glue the two star like base plates with the circle of TroGlass Satins. Make sure that the two large pieces are well positioned edge to edge. Now turn the decoration and remove the protective foil (if you haven't removed it before cutting). Fix the two half circles of TroLase Foil. Now take the time to apply the pieces of the different materials.
Glue it on the white base plate only when you are sure that they are positioned correctly. It is helpful to have an image of the finished graphic to hand. You will find this image in the download document provided.
If all pieces have been fixed, you can mount the decoration on the wall using the mounting devices.
Inspiration
You can use this decoration as a wall clock as well. In this case you just have to cut a hole in the middle and insert the clockwork from the back
By combining other TroGlass colors and wood types, you can easily create a version that fits perfectly into any office, clubhouse, lounge, etc.
