Step 2: Cutting TroGlass Materials

Place the first TroGlass material onto your Trotec laser's acrylic cutting grid and then cut out the individual pieces. Repeat the process with the other materials. If you like, you can leave the protective foil on the material. We decided to take it off beforehand so we didn't have to take it off of every individual piece. Please keep in mind that the settings you use may be different depending on your laser machine and available laser power:

Color Process Power (%) Speed (%) ppi/Hz
Red Cut CO2 100 0.9 1000
Passes Air Assist Z-Offset Advanced
1 On - -

Tip:

Because we wanted our overall design to be big, the Speedy 360 was too small to cut out the black backplate, so we used the SP500 laser cutter. If your working area is not large enough, you could either shrink the entire graphic or only cut out a round baseplate.

Step 3: TroLase Foil

The two semi-circles made from TroLase foil are the all-over background that we place each individual piece onto. Send them to the laser with the below settings:

Process mode Resolution Cut line
Vector Job 1000 dpi None
Halftone Others
Color Optimized geometries

Step 6: Cutting solid wood

Switch out the acrylic cutting grid for the honeycomb cutting table. Then, cut out the maple wood with the below settings:

Color Process Power (%) Speed (%) ppi/Hz
Red Cut CO2 100 1.4 1000
Passes Air Assist Z-Offset Advanced
1 On - -

Tip:

We suggest that you use the small nozzle and a high amount of compressed air (if available) for neat cutting edges.

Step 8: Assembly

Assembling the decoration is definitely the most time-intensive task of the tutorial.

To start, glue each star-like baseplate to the TroGlass Satins circle. Be sure that the two large pieces are positioned neatly edge-to-edge. Then, if you haven't already, flip the decoration and get rid of the protective foil. Fix each TroLase Foil semi-circle in place and then apply each piece from the different materials.

Glue the finished product to the white baseplate only if you are sure that you have positioned the pieces correctly. It can be handy to keep a copy of the finished picture on hand. This image can be found in the provided download document.

After every piece has been fixed in place, you can mount the finished piece to a wall with mounting devices.

Inspiration

This decoration also works well as a wall clock. To do this, all you need to do is cut a hole in the middle and then insert the clockwork from the back.

By using different TroGlass colours and wood types, it's easy to make a decoration that can fit neatly into any office, clubhouse, lounge, etc.
