Laser Cutting & Laser Engraving Textiles

For Cotton, Silk, Felt and Much More.

Textile types suitable for laser processing

With Trotec laser machine, you can quickly and easily laser cut fabrics and textiles to the sizes and shapes you desire, with a high-quality finish and a tactile effect. Whatever you may be doing with your machine – engraving patterns into felt or cutting shapes out of polyester – lasers can give you incredible and limitless freedom.

Synthetic materials react very well when laser processed, as the laser beam physically fuses the edges and stops the material from fraying.

Application Examples for Textile Processing

Laser machines work with precision and flexibility when processing textiles. The laser beam physically melts the material when it cuts, creating clean and sealed edges. Laser engraving creates a tangible, tactile effect, so you can give products special and unique finishes.

“Why should I buy a laser for textile processing?”

Using a laser to cut fabric is quicker and much more productive than with a knife or fabric scissors. Laser processing is a non-contact, tool-free activity. So, it is quick, easy and simple! Your material will not be touched during the laser cutting, so it is much less likely to become warped or unevenly cut. The laser beam physically melts the material, creating clean, perfect edges every time.

Function & Advantages of Laser Technology

Perfectly Sealed Edges When Laser Cutting

  • No fraying or seams
  • Post-processing is not required

Advantages of a Trotec laser

  • Trotec laser engraving machines have a high-quality axis drive and a very intelligent air-flow route

Accurate Contour Cutting

  • Accurately cuts printed materials, including flags and banners
  • There is no need for positioning and re-positioning as you go. All distortions in the printed design are adjusted by the machine automatically

  • JobControl™ Vision camera system, for cutting printed materials perfectly every time

Productive Processing

  • Laser cutting fabrics is much quicker and more efficient than cutting with a knife.
  • Contactless production – there will never be any resistance on the material

Advantages of a Trotec laser

  • Speedy series: The fastest laser engravers available on the market, with a maximum processing speed of 4.2 m/sec and an acceleration of 5g

Non-Contact Processing

  • No need to waste time fixing the material to the machine, which is common when knife cutting
  • Material will not warp or shift as you go

Advantages of a Trotec laser

  • Multifunctional table concept for simple, easy handling

Simple, High-Quality Manufacturing

  • Designs are created in your preferred graphics program and sent to the laser using the ‘print’ command
  • High quality processing with tactile effects – this usually can’t be achieved through simple textile printing

Advantages of a Trotec laser

  • JobControl® laser software: Simple, efficient and intuitive.

One Tool for All Shapes

  • You don’t need to consider the diameter of your tools prior to and during laser processing
  • Depending on the lens used, the laser beam is only about 0.1mm wide

Advantages of a Trotec laser

  • Ideal optics and optimal beam performance

No Tool Wear

  • The laser beam will not wear over time from material processing
  • No costs for new tools, which are common with milling cutters

Advantages of a Trotec laser

  • CeramiCore laser technology has a particularly long service life
"I purchased my Speedy 300 because I could deal directly with a local office and it hasn't missed a beat in 12 months. We are now able to add different decorations to our existing production. I would recommend Trotec Laser because of the ease and professionalism when dealing with Trotec from start to install."

Tips for Laser Cutting Textiles

“Can all materials be laser cut and engraved to the same exceptional quality?”

Synthetic fabrics respond exceptionally well to laser cutting. This is because the often contain different kinds of plastic, like polyester. The laser beam physically melts the polyester in a controlled and professional manner, leaving you with a fibre-free, sealed edge.

Marks on organic fabrics, including linen engraving and cotton cuts, are likely to develop a brownish or discoloured cutting edge. The operator can change and control this effect by selecting an appropriate lens and laser parameters. We always recommend testing a sample before processing your jobs.

Laserflexx – as easy as iron-on

‘Laserflexx’, a high-quality, multi-layered film, has been designed specifically for laser processing. You can now engrave and mark textiles with any design you want! Depending on your laser machine’s power and speed, the optimal laser setting will vary. We recommend processing from the bottom and work your way up while using the highest possible exhaust setting. This will mean that dust and debris produced while working will not damage the completed product.
