Examples of laser cut and laser engraved toys

Wood is a popular material for toys, thus the versatility of the laser is of great advantage. Laser cutting wood creates a dark cutting edge while laser engraving wood results in a brownish or whitish coloured engraving which serve as extraordinary design elements. Create high-quality, creative end products for a wide range of applications.

What is the point of buying a laser for laser cutting and engraving toys?

Using a laser is a cost-effective way to produce individual pieces, a small series, or a large series. A precise laser cut creates custom-fit parts even with the finest geometries, allowing you to make every toy unique by adding logos, names and decorations on different materials.

Function and advantages of laser technology

Contactless processing

  • No time-consuming fixation of material in contrast to milling
  • No distortion of the material

Advantages of a Trotec laser

Multi-functional table concept for easy handling

Easy digital manufacturing

  • Designs are created in the usual graphics program and sent to the laser using a print command
  • Time-consuming programming as with CNC milling is not required

Advantages of a Trotec laser

  • JobControl® Laser Software: Simply intuitive. Efficient work.

Fine tool

  • Precise geometries can be cut

Advantages of a Trotec laser

  • High-quality optics and best beam quality

No tool wear

  • No abrasion of the laser beam during material processing
  • No costs for new tools compared to a milling machine

Advantages of a Trotec laser

  • CeramiCore laser sources with a particularly long service life

No shavings

  • The wood is vaporised by the laser. There are no shavings compared to other technologies.

Advantages of a Trotec laser

  • The gases produced are efficiently removed and filtered by Trotec exhaust systems.

Characteristic and productive engraving

  • Coloured engraving as a decorative element
  • Time-consuming "clearing" as with milling is no longer required, engraving is achieved within seconds

Advantages of a Trotec laser

  • Speedy series: The fastest laser engraver on the market with a maximum engraving speed of 3.55 m / sec and an acceleration of 5 g.

"Our Trotec Speedy 500 provides the speed and accuracy necessary for the fine detail work we do at Miniature Scenery. The control systems and ease of use means we can quickly turn a prototype 3D rendering into a physical 3D model. With the added ongoing support offered by the Trotec team I would not look at any other laser in future."

Tips for laser cutting and laser engraving of toys

Wood is a popular material for toys. Can you laser cut and engrave any wood?

Since wood is a natural material, be sure to consider factors such as the density and the resin content of the wood you are processing. Soft woods, such as balsa, require less laser power and can be cut more quickly. Hardwood, on the other hand, is denser so it requires more laser power. For MDF, which consists of glued wood fibers, we recommend using compressed air. Trotec sells laserable wood products available in a range of finishes and colours.

Is the wood engraving always dark?

The brownish-coloured laser engraving is very common. When you process varnished wood with the appropriate laser settings, you can also achieve a white engraving. To do this, we recommend very low power at high speed.

There is smoke in the processing area. What to do?

Laser processing of wood is a sublimation process. That is, the solid material is converted directly into gaseous state through combustion. Dust is also formed which is perceptible as smoke. For wood processing, we therefore recommend the use of an efficient extraction system. This will allow you to achieve perfect engraving and cutting results. In addition, the service life of your laser machine can thus be prolonged. That is, extraction with maximum flow rate is essential when it comes to wood processing with lasers.
