Trophy with Relief Engraving

Step By Step Tutorial

Create a sophisticated, eye-catching trophy using Trotec materials and 3D relief engraving

Preparation

You Will Need:

Machine Used:

  • Speedy 360 flexx
  • 80 Watts
  • 2" lens
  • Vacuum table with honeycomb cutting table resp. acrylic grid

You are free to use any machine from the Speedy flexx series to create this sample.

Tip:

TroGlass Satins and TroGlass Metallic have a very high-end, sophisticated looking finish.

Step by Step

Step 1: Import Design

You are free to create your own design, or simply import our template and adapt it to fit your requirements. We have engraved a recess in the base plate to hold the TroGlass Metallic ring.

Printer Driver Settings:

Process Mode  Resolution Cut Line
Standard 500dpi None
Halftone Other
Colour Optimised Geometries

Step 2: Engraving the Base Plate

Place your TroGlass Satin Black onto the acrylic grid of your Trotec laser machine. Engrave and cut the base plate using the parameters below. Please note that the parameters can differ depending on the laser machine you are using and its available laser power.

Laser Parameters: Engraving

Colour Process Power (%) Speed (%) ppi/Hz
Black Engrave CO2 40 10 500
Passes Air Assist Z-Offset Advanced
1 On 2mm -

Laser Parameters: Scratching

Colour  Process Power (%)  Speed (%)  ppi/Hz
Red Cut CO2 8 0.8 5000
Passes Air Assist Z-Offset Advanced
1 On 1mm  -

Laser Parameters: Cutting

Colour  Process  Power (%)  Speed (%)  ppi/Hz
Blue Cut CO2 95 0.8 5000
Passes Air Assist Z-Offset Advanced
1 On - -

Step 3: Design - TroGlass Metallic

Now, send the TroGlass Metallic ring job to the laser using the following driver settings.

Process Mode Resolution Cut Line Halftone Others
Standard 600dpi None - -

Step 4: Engraving - TroGlass Metallic

Place the TroGlass Metallic sheet onto the acrylic cutting table and proceed to engrave the job using the following laser parameters:

Laser Parameters - Engraving

Colour Process Power (%)
Speed (%)
ppi/Hz
Black Engrave CO2 16 20 600
Passes Air Assist Z-Offset Advanced
1 On 1mm -

Laser Parameters - Cutting

Colour Process Power (%) Speed (%) ppi/Hz
Red Cut Co2 50 0.2 5000
Passes Air Assist Z-Offset Advanced
1 On - -

We decided to use the JobControl parameters for TroGlass, optimised for quality.

Step 5: Design - Relief Engraving

Finally, you can send the files for the 3D wood engravings and all the other wooden parts to the laser:

Process Mode Resolution Cut line Halftone Others
Standard 500dpi None - -

Step 6: Laser Process - Relief Engraving

Laser Parameters: Engraving

Colour Process Power (%) Speed (%) ppi/Hz
Black Engrave CO2 100 30 500
Passes Air Assist Z-Offset Advanced
3 (!!) On - -

Laser Parameters: Cutting

Colour Process Power (%) Speed (%) ppi / Hz
Red Cut CO2 100 1 1000
Passes Air Assist Z-Offset Advanced
1 On - -

When engraving very deeply into wood, we find it can be very helpful to cut the job first and engrave it later.

Step 7: Cleaning & Assembling

Now, it is time to clean the two acrylic pieces you cut previously with a damp cloth. The wooden engraving should be cleaned with a little bit of water and a toothbrush. Here, you can find some tips for the correct cleaning method.

Place the acrylic glue onto the engraved ring on the base plate and position the TroGlass Metallic ring on it carefully. Press down firmly when you have the right positioning and allow the glue to cure. This may take a few seconds. Then, place some double-sided adhesive tape or some small dots where the wooden relief will be positioned and fix it there. Then, apply some more double-sided adhesive to both sides. Position it on the left and right side of the black base plate. Ensure that you have a rectangular contact surface so that the trophy always stands upright and doesn't shift or roll around.

Finally, it's time to attach the lettering and the corresponding backings. Now, you have completed your elegant, eye-catching trophy!

Try combining other kinds of SolidWood and TroGlass materials to adapt the trophy to yours or your customers’ requirements. Just keep in mind that you might need to run a few tests first.
