Create a presentation box

made using TroLase ADA Signage

Use your Trotec laser machine and Trotec's engraving materials to make a handy, exciting presentation box to showcase various name tags or samples. Find all your engraving materials here:


Required material:

  • 1/4 sheet TroLase ADA Signage 3.2 mm
  • Foam material, 10 mm thick
  • Material to cover the engraving table (e.g. paper)

Machine used:

  • Speedy 400, 120 Watt
  • 2" lens
  • Vacuum table
  • Acrylic cutting grid for TroLase ADA Signage
  • Honeycomb cutting table for the foam

For this sample you can use any laser machine from the Speedy laser engraver series.


  • We recommend using TroLase ADA Signage for this job. It is well suited for these project types, as the material has a level of flexibility and the parts will fit nicely together.
  • Always double-check that the foam you have selected for use is appropriate to laser engrave or cut. Never use PVC, or any other prohibited materials. Always do your research before committing to a material (no PVC or other prohibited materials)

Step by Step

Step 1: Import /create design template

Begin by designing a box of your choice, or use one of our templates. You can visit for a quick and easy box design if you would like to make your own. Our template consists of an outer shell, functioning lid as well as a double foam insert. Just send the graphic elements straight to your laser machine using these parameters:

If you have chosen to design your own box in, be sure to select a kerf value of 0.2mm, automatically compensating the kerf in the graphic design.

Step 2: Laser process box

You simply need to use the laser parameters saved in JobControl® to complete the outer shell and lid, made up of ADA Signage. The recommended settings can vary depending on the power of the laser machine you are using. Be sure to neatly position the ADA Signage onto the acrylic cutting grid when cutting the pieces out.

  • We suggest to start the engraving from the bottom as this will reduce cleaning

Step 3: Design Foam

To achieve various engraving heights on the foam during processing, we used the ‘Relief’ mode. This makes it easy for you to position the name tags in different sections of the box. You simply need to define the differing grayscales within the graphic – the darker the shade, the deeper the engraving will go. Send your graphics to the laser engraving machine using the following parameters:

Be sure that the foam line is lying perfectly flat on the laser bed, otherwise the engraving will be uneven. Maximise the vacuum table by covering the engraving table.

Step 4: Laser process foam

Position the foam into the Trotec laser and cover the rest of the working area. Engrave and cut the two pieces of the insert.

We suggest the honeycomb cutting table is used to prevent the vacuum table to be "cut"

Step 5: Cleaning & Assembly

Connect the single pieces of the outer shell and lid together. Then, insert the foam and equip it with your name tags or samples. Multiple layers of name tags can be excellently presented in your box. A description of how to make this sample is available on our website - Name Tags "Paolas Cupcakes"

You will find an additional bar in the lid of your box. This holds the presentation box in an oblique position, to showcase your name tags easily and nicely. If you wish to transport the box (when visiting customers), simply remove the bar from the lid, place it in the box and close the lid again. It’s elegant and unique, and you’ll be sure to impress your customers.


  • You could potentially produce multiple boxes in advance, and complete the foam only when you’ve received a customer order. Always leave the protection foil on the box to prevent scratches and dust build-up.
  • Refine the lid of the presentation box with individual layouts and corporate logos using for example self-adhesive TroLase Lights engraving material.
  • Use Trotec's veneered wood for an extra elegant touch. If you do so, use a kerf of 0.1 mm in
