Acrylic Necklace Charms for Valentine's Day

Learn how to create beautiful laser cut glass edges when using acrylic engraving material. Having a good down draft is crucial when creating intricate pieces, such as jewellery.


Preparation

Required material:

  • 1 sheet of 3mm thick acrylic
  • Laser tape
  • Necklace chain
  • 6mm jump rings
  • Needle nose pliers

Machine used:

  • Speedy 400
  • 120 watt
  • 2.0" lens
  • Acrylic cutting grid table

You can use any laser machine from the Speedy laser engraver series or the SP laser cutter series for this application.

Important:

  • We have used a darker coloured cast acrylic for this application.
  • When creating a glass edge it is important to have a nice down draft. This makes laser tape (painter tape) an important tool.

Step by Step

Step 1: Import /create design template

You can use the template we have provided, or alternatively, you can create your own stunning necklace charm. The laser parameters may vary depending on the material used.

Print settings:­

Step 2: Laser process

We recommend using the acrylic cutting grid. Place the material onto the laser bed and ensure that the remaining area is sealed with tape. This will increase the exhaust power, which in turn will create a better down draft.

  • We used the standard laser parameters from JobControl® optimised for speed. The material parameters of JobControl can be downloaded here.

Step 3: Post-processing

Insert the split rings into the eyelets provided and attach the chains.
