Projects in the automotive industry are slowly becoming heavily dependent on 'special' signage as oppose to standard signage. Projects include cabinet signs made from coated acrylic and equipment labels made from aluminium with a ceramic coating. Clear and crisp signage is not only a requirement for recognition, but it will also give your brand a professional, classy look. Internal safety standards always apply in large factories. 

SPS Technik only uses the Speedy 400 Flexx to produce their facility signage. This is a very well-rounded machine as it has two laser sources in one - a CO2 and a fiber laser. This means that it can mark and engrave a variety of materials without any trouble, including tools and screws.

Different materials – different approaches

You can easily process a large variety of materials in no time at all with the Speedy 400 Flexx. Including two of the most important pieces in the automotive industry - acrylic glass and aluminium. 

At SPS Technik, the TroGlass acrylic glass is formulated by laser cutting (with or without bore). Here, you must set the text as 'mirrored' as this will later be backed with acrylic paints

Anodised and ceramic-coated aluminium is ideal for extremely harsh conditions. So, the desired dimensions are cut using gate shears, and any existing bores are punched. The prefabricated workpieces are then inserted into a stencil, and finally the top coat is ablated down to the ceramic by the laser. The writing will always emerge white and clearly legible when processed by a laser.

Application examples for industrial laser marking

Using a laser beam for marking means that very precise, legible details can be achieved without any difficulty - with no need for tedious prep-work. Laser markings are resistant to wear-and-tear, UV radiation, heat, cold and chemicals. They also have a very long service life, making lasers suitable for many industrial labelling applications. These could include type plates, machine markings, instruction plates, product information and trademark protection.
