PROMOT Automation is an Austrian-based industrial machine manufacturer specialising in material-handling technology. The company employs over 250 staff and is responsible for producing automated solutions world-wide to clients in all sectors including automotive and aircraft manufacturing, tool and mechanical engineering.
Their three business areas are:
- workpiece handling
- pallet handling
- tool handling
PROMOT have an export quota of 95%. The company also provides systems, advice and services for the automation of cutting machine tools for machine tool manufacturers and users.
With production averaging between 200 and 250 automated systems each year, numerous different types of signs are required for the various systems. For example, information signs or data plates. Up to a few hundred signs may be needed depending on the size of the system. In some exceptional cases even up to 1000 signs. In the beginning, the engraved signs were sourced by external service providers. However, due to the increasing volume of information signs the decision was made to manufacture them in-house.

Before the introduction of the Trotec Speedy 360 in 2016, the sign engraving was carried out using a mechanical engraving machine. Now, with the use of a Trotec CO2 laser Speedy 360 the signs are manufactured using double layer synthetic laminate or anodised aluminum. For PROMOT this yields an average capacity of approx. 60% daily. The laser is operated by 10 people in total.
Easy operation for all users
The process flow is easy. The system planners at PROMOT Automation design the required signs and send them directly from the design program to the laser via the printer driver. No additional software was required. Additionally, the laser parameters are already recorded for the selected material being used, making the process easy for all users to operate the laser engraving machine.
