Cutting and marking in the toy industry 

Regner Dampf- und Eisenbahntechnik is a mediumsized family owned business based in Aurach, Germany. Regner manufactures fully operational live steam model trains at 1:22.5 scale in series production. The models are sold directly and at specialty stores around the world.

The model trains are developed, built and packed for shipment at Regner. This process encompasses a multitude of production steps, including many cutting
operations:

• Gaskets with precise fits must be cut from gasket paper
• Type plates are produced from plastic
• Train car housings are cut from plywood
• Packaging components are produced from cardboard and foam up to 40 mm thick.

To be a frontrunner among the competition it is important for Regner to produce economically and quickly. The new cutting system should be capable of replacing expensive production methods used previously such as stamping. The new cutting system should also be easy to use and have the flexibility needed to cover the many different cutting applications. Ideally the cutting machine provides a software that enables simple file transfers.

Regner Dampf- und Eisenbahntechnik decided on the Speedy 100R from Trotec. Aside from technical advantages offered by the machine, Regner was also impressed by the Trotec team’s strong customer focus. The Speedy 100R CO2 flatbed laser achieves excellent results on all of the materials used such as wood, plastics, cardboard and foams. Objects of many different sizes can be cut, marked and engraved on its 610 x 305 mm working area. Trotec’s JobControl software is used to import the many different graphic files easily and quickly, and to edit them as well if necessary.  Thanks to its high processing speed, flexibility in application and user-friendly software, the Speedy 100R is generating substantial cost savings at company Regner.
