     Huppertz-Modellbau & Engineering Ltd. (HMB)

Huppertz-Modellbau & Engineering Ltd. (HMB) has been the expert in cutting-edge laser-produced cardboard models for model railways since 1974. Today, HMB produces fine-scale model kits according to historical or contemporary original construction drawings to an uncompromising level of quality and this down to the very last detail. Plastic model components produced by injection moulding are no longer able to satisfy the demands of today’s discerning model maker. The round edges of the buildings and unattractive shiny surfaces common to plastic parts are a further annoyance, not to mention their glaring colours.

Huppertz Modellbau therefore uses museum-grade, hard-pressed model makers’ board which allows superb subsequent handling.  For example, it is very easy to deal with the signs of aging and to match the colour of the non-reactive cardboard to individual tastes without damaging the surface of the material. With all these convincing advantages, the level of stability these kits achieve is almost inconceivable.

While it only used to be profitable to produce injection-moulded model kits in large quantities of 5,000 units or more, laser technology has an added advantage: computer-to-plate production processes make it possible to produce individual items quickly and economically.

    The Trotec solution

HMB currently produces its model kits using three Speedy 300 with vacuum and honeycomb tables. It also uses Trotec JobControl, TroCAM, CorelDraw, ArchiCAD, AutoCAD and digiCAD software. In addition to absolute top quality, productivity is awarded a high priority in the production process. The two systems are operated at full output and maximum speed. The models are cut with the highest level of precision. Details (brick structure, rivets) are engraved on the board. Furthermore, Mr. Huppert values the absolute precision and accuracy of the Trotec laser equipment.

“What we achieve with the Trotec machines would be unachievable with any other laser on the market.”
