Hand in hand in all things PLEXIGLAS®

Trotec Laser and Evonik Industries AG
  • The international industrial enterprises cooperate on laser machining.

Both Trotec and Evonik have spent years building on their knowledge of laser machining PLEXIGLAS®. The two companies are now cooperating to expand their knowledge on the engraving, marking and laser cutting of PLEXIGLAS®. As part of this cooperative effort, Trotec is providing Evonik with laser engraving and laser cutting machines. The aim of Evonik, inventor and manufacturer of PLEXIGLAS®, is to discover more about the laser machining of the material. At Trotec, the focus is on increasing its knowledge of the material itself. Both partners profit from transferring knowledge in training courses and workshops.
  • Strong partners for brilliant results

Evonik Industries is one of the world’s leading companies in the specialty chemistry sector and is constantly demonstrating new PLEXIGLAS® applications. „We are delighted about the collaboration. We have been working with a Speedy 300 flexx, a Speedy 500 and a SpeedMarker workstation from Trotec for several weeks,” said Dr. Christian Eckhardt, Application Technology Manager at Evonik, of the cooperative effort. Following comprehensive training, the Trotec laser devices are now running in the Evonik customer technical centre, the training centre and the test centre in Darmstadt. This is where both customers and Evonik employees alike receive training on the inspirational PLEXIGLAS® plastic. “The topic of laser machining has naturally occupied us for a long time. At the moment, we are particularly interested in the engraving of PLEXIGLAS® rods and the fiber laser machining of our colored products. With the Trotec devices, we have found flexible, intelligently designed devices for such applications,” continues Dr. Eckhardt.

The Trotec team has already received training on site at Evonik. The experts spent two days discussing the laser machining of PLEXIGLAS®. “We want to be able to better advise our customers,” says Dr. Andreas Penz of the motivation behind Trotec’s participation in the collaboration. “It was clear to us that we would best be able to learn about acrylic from one of the leading global producers of PMMA products.” The MD of Trotec can already see the positive effects of the cooperative effort: “The collaboration has already helped us to resolve customer issues.”

Further knowledge-transfer events, such as a seminar for Trotec sales staff at Evonik, are already in the pipeline.
